Biography

   Angela J. Shutty is an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLP in our firm’s San Fernando Valley office location.
   Originally from the state of Pennsylvania, Ms. Shutty began her corporate career at the Corporate Headquarters of the Rite Aid Corporation located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania subsequent to obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Pennsylvania State University and also obtaining a Masters Degree in Business Administration.
   Working in all phases of corporate taxation at that position, she developed an interest in the legal field and relocated to California to pursue a Law Degree at the University of San Diego where she obtained her Juris Doctorate Degree.  Combining her interests in tax and accounting drew her to Price Waterhouse in Los Angeles to become a tax attorney.
   For more than 15 years, she has worked solely in the field of workers’ compensation defense as an attorney representing insurance carriers and employers.

Biography

   Bryan R. Bush is an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLP in our firm’s Orange County location.
   Mr. Bush earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Hope College in Holland, Michigan. He went on to earn his Juris Doctorate at Pepperdine University School of Law. Mr. Bush is licensed to practice law in the state of Michigan, as well as in California.
   Mr. Bush began his career working in civil litigation for one of the largest civil litigation firms based in Orange County. While there, Mr. Bush assisted the firm in starting its workers’ compensation defense practice.
   Mr. Bush is completely conversant in all aspects of workers’ compensation defense, including defending serious and willful and §132(a) claims. Additionally, Mr. Bush has an active subrogation practice on behalf of our clients. While able to handle either subrogation or workers’ compensation defense, Mr. Bush is able to easily blend both defending the workers’ compensation claim, while also pursuing subrogation in the same matter; thus, assisting clients to reduce their overall costs.
   Mr. Bush is admitted to practice before the Southern and Central Federal Districts in California, as well as all of the State Courts in California.

   Carey A. Guynes is an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLP in our firm’s Pasadena office location.  Ms. Guynes earned her Undergraduate Degree from the University of La Verne before going on to earn her Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of La Verne College of Law.
   Prior to joining the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly in 2002, Ms. Guynes worked in the field of workers’ compensation defense for several years earning experience in all aspects of representation of employers and insurance entities in workers’ compensation matters.
   Currently, Ms. Guynes represents employers, insurance companies, self-insured entities as well as uninsured employers in all standard litigation of matters before the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB).  Ms. Guynes also represents employers and self-insured entities in matters involving 132a discrimination claims and serious and willful misconduct allegations.

   Christina A. Hindman is an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLP in our San Diego office location. Ms. Hindman earned her Undergraduate Degree at the University of California, San Diego before going on to earn her Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of San Diego, School of Law. Ms. Hindman came to Floyd, Skeren & Kelly in 2005 after gaining several years of experience litigating workers’ compensation matters in the San Joaquin Valley.
   Ms. Hindman brings her substantial experience in the aggressive defense of all workers’ compensation matters, including standard claims litigation, 132a discrimination allegations and serious and willful misconduct filings, to our firms southern most office.
   Currently, Ms. Hindman works with third party administrators, insurance entities, self-insured entities and employers to vigorously protect their interests before the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board.

Biography

   Christopher D. Lear is currently the Managing Attorney of the Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly’s Orange County office location.
   After obtaining his Undergraduate Degree from Western State University, Mr. Lear went on to obtain his Juris Doctorate Degree at Western State University College of Law.
   Upon becoming licensed to practice law in California, Mr. Lear gained experience in a number of areas of law before beginning employment with State Compensation Insurance Fund (SCIF) in 1999.  After four years of experience in workers’ compensation matters with SCIF, Mr. Lear began his tenure with the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly in 2003, bringing his strong litigation background and breadth of knowledge to the firm.
   Mr. Lear is also a proud member of the United States Army Reserve since 1987.

   Dalton L. Hooks, Jr. is the Managing Attorney of the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly’s Las Vegas Office.
  Mr. Hooks represents clients in connection with employment related disputes in State and Federal Courts and before administrative agencies. Mr. Hooks also advises clients in various areas of employment law with a focus on workers’ compensation and occupational safety and health. Mr. Hooks has more than 17 years of experience in occupational safety and workers’ compensation law in Nevada and was formerly the Chief Administrative Officer of the Nevada OSHA Consultation Section (SCATS). As a former compliance officer with the Nevada OSHA program, Mr. Hooks conducted inspections in both general industry and construction settings including accident and fatality investigations.
  Mr. Hooks is an experienced trainer and former adjunct professor at UNLV. Mr. Hooks’ unique background and training make him an effective and knowledgeable advocate. Mr. Hooks is licensed to practice before all State and Federal Courts in the State of Nevada. He is a member of various local bar associations.

Biography

Dan O’Brien is currently the Managing Attorney of the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly’s Fresno office location.  He is a member of the California Bar, the American Bar Association and the Fresno County Bar Association.  He has been a Certified Specialist in Workers’ Compensation Law as Certified by the Sate Bar of California and is an AV Rated Attorney by Martin-Dale-Hubbell Peer Review.
   He has argued and tried cases representing insurance carriers, self-insured employers and public agencies of all types before the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB), the California Appellate Courts and the California Supreme Court.
   Mr. O’Brien has served as an instructor for the Insurance Education Association (IEA) and has been a frequent speaker on workers’ compensation at local meetings and state conventions.  Mr. O’Brien has more than 30 years of experience in workers’ compensation defense and has served as a Pro-Tempore Judge before the WCAB.
    He is a graduate of San Diego State University and Southwestern University School of Law.  He as been listed in Who’s Who in California and Who’s Who in American Law and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the California Worker’s Compensation Defense Attorneys Association.  He has been active in many charitable, community and fraternal organizations and served as a Naval Flight Officer in Viet Nam where he was awarded an Air Medal with three Gold Stars.

   Danielle C.    Darlene M. Ball is currently the Managing Attorney of the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly’s Pismo Beach office location and is a member in good standing of the California Bar.

   David M. Weitzman is an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLP in our firm’s Thousand Oaks office location.  After obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, Mr. Weitzman continued on to obtain his Juris Doctorate Degree from Southwestern School of Law.

Biography

   Debra S. Tobias is a Certified Worker’s Compensation Specialist and an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLP in our firm’s Thousand Oaks office location.  She is a graduate of California State University at Northridge, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Ms. Tobias thereafter went on to study law at Southwestern University School of Law, graduating in 1990 with a Juris Doctor degree.
   
Ms. Tobias has been an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly since 2003 and brings to the firm nearly 20 years of legal experience in civil and workers’ compensation litigation.  Prior to joining Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, Ms. Tobias worked as in-house legal counsel for a major national worker’s compensation insurance carrier and also worked as in-house counsel for a national corporation litigating First Amendment matters and cases arising under the Federal Freedom of Information Act.  Ms. Tobias also worked with the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office conducting preliminary Hearings and co-chairing misdemeanor trials at Central Trial in Los Angeles and Van Nuys. She also worked with the California State Attorney General’s office writing criminal appellate briefs on behalf of the State as a responding party. Ms. Tobias has represented insurance entities, employers, third party administrators and uninsured employers in all aspects of workers’ compensation litigation including standard defense litigation, 132a discrimination allegations and serious and willful misconduct claims.
  Ms. Tobias is well-versed in the depositions of injured workers, physicians, and witnesses. Her creative, aggressive and earnest approach to claims has resulted in numerous "Take Nothing" Awards at trial, during her career as a defense attorney.

   Dona L. Skeren is an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLP. After finishing her undergraduate education at California State University, Fullerton, Ms. Skeren graduated from Golden Gate University School of Law with her Juris Doctorate Degree.
   While attending Golden Gate University School of Law, Ms. Skeren was a law review staff member and received several academic awards in her studies. Ms. Skeren has been an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly since 1995 and has also assisted in the editing and publication of Judge David W. O’Brien’s California Workers’ Compensation Claims and Benefits and Unemployment Insurance treatises.

   Eric E. Ostling is the Managing Attorney of the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly’s Sacramento office location.  Mr. Ostling earned his Undergraduate Degree from the University of California, Davis, before attending the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctorate Degree.  Not being satisfied with a Juris Doctorate Degree, Mr. Ostling continued and obtained his Master of Law and Taxation, Degree also from the University of the Pacific.
    Prior to joining the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLP in 2007, Mr. Ostling obtained many years of experience in litigating both civil and workers’ compensation issues before various Northern California Superior Courts as well as the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB).  As a result of this litigation experience, Mr. Ostling brings with him a breadth of knowledge on subrogation and civil litigation matters to supplement his ability to represent the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly’s clients before the WCAB.
   Currently, Mr. Ostling represents employers, insurance entities, self-insured entities and third party administrators before the WCAB on standard workers’ compensation defense, subrogation, 132a discrimination claims and serious and willful misconduct allegations.
   Mr. Ostling also has a published article in the Pacific Law Journal.

   Erica S. Willis joined the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLP in our firm’s Camarillo office location in August of 2006.  Prior to joining the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, she was Supervisor of Educational Development and Business Practices at Workers’ Compensation Central where she became familiar with the law and participants in the workers’ compensation industry. 
   Ms. Willis’ other experience includes an externship in entertainment law, volunteer work in the area of special education law, as well as work in a civil plaintiff’s law firm.  She is a December 2004 graduate of Pepperdine University School of Law and is admitted to practice law in California as well as the United States District Court, Central District of California.

   Franco Yaconelli is an associate attorney in Floyd, Skeren & Kelly's Culver City office. After obtaining his undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada – Reno, Franco attended McGeorge Law School/University of the Pacific in Sacramento, CA.
   For the last 5 years Franco has specialized in workers’ compensation where he actively defends insurance companies, third party administrators, and employers. Additionally, his expertise expands to successfully defending Labor Code Section 132a discrimination matters.    George Sickman is an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLP in our firm’s Ventura County office location.  Mr. Sickman obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Ohio State University before moving forward to obtain his Masters Degree from the University of Southern California and, ultimately, his Juris Doctorate Degree from Western State University.
   Since joining the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly in 2007, Mr. Sickman has brought his nearly 25 years of legal experience and certified specialist designation to bear on the defense of workers’ compensation matters.
   Mr. Sickman currently defends all aspects of workers’ compensation claims including standard defense litigation, 132a claims and serious and willful misconduct allegations.  Mr. Sickman works on behalf of the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly for insurance entities, third party administrators, self-insured entities as well as uninsured employers to ensure the most aggressive and cost effective defense of workers’ compensation matters.  In addition to his legal experience, Mr. Sickman also continues ongoing studies in the Spanish and Mandarin Chinese languages.

   Glenn A. Hollinghurst is an associate attorney in our firm’s Orange County location.
    Mr. Hollinghurst earned his Bachelor’s of Science Degree from California State University, Chico in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He went on to earn a Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law.
    Mr. Hollinghurst volunteered as a Mediator with the California Western School of Law outreach program, where he conducted mediations pertaining to personal injury, breach of contract and landlord/tenant disputes within the San Diego court system.
    Mr. Hollinghurst began his career working with the Department of the Navy preparing cases including complex exhibits for appeal by the Office of General Counsel at Camp Pendelton, CA. He then moved on to practice Civil litigation before he began his career in Workers’ Compensation defense. Since 2001, Mr. Hollinghurst has exclusively represented employers, large insurance carriers, and third party administrators on their Workers’ Compensation cases including defending serious and willful and §132(a) claims.    Hagop Baronian is an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLP in our firm’s Pasadena office location. Mr. Baronian earned his Undergraduate Degree in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles before going on to earn his Juris Doctorate Degree from Pepperdine University School of Law.
   Prior to joining the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, Mr. Baronian gained experience in a number of areas of law namely in the field of medical malpractice and personal injury before beginning his employment with State Compensation Insurance Fund (SCIF) in 2005.    James K.    Jason C.    Joel S. Allan is an associate attorney in the Los Angeles County location of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, where he handles the defense of workers’ compensation claims. As a member of the firm’s employment group, Mr. Allan also handles labor and employment issues and provides support to other attorneys in the southern California offices when such issues arise in conjunction with their cases.
    Mr. Allan started defending workers’ compensation cases in 2004. Over his career he has gained experience defending government entities, with particular experience in fire and sheriff cases, self-insured employers, and multi-party defendant cases.    Mitch Mays, a seasoned Trial attorney, is associated with the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly’s Ventura County office location.
   After serving three years in the Army’s 82nd Airborne, Mr. Mays graduated from Pepperdine’s School of Law, passing the State Bar the same year in 1981.  He began his career as an attorney with a small Ventura firm representing applicants in the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) and gaining invaluable Trial experience in the Criminal Courts as a member of Conflict Defense Associates in Ventura County.
   Mr. Mays made the jump to the workers compensation defense side full time in 1988 and has never looked back.  He has worked both for private defense firms and as in-house counsel for CIGNA Insurance.  He has represented third party administrators, various insurance companies, self-insured employers, uninsured employers, public agencies and school districts.

   Robert C. Nichols is an associate and senior trial attorney with the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLP in the firms’ Thousand Oaks office.    For over thirty years, Mr. Nichols has specialized in the defense of all aspects of Workers’ Compensation matters including all standard issues, discrimination claims filed under Labor Code 132a and Serious and Willful Claims, at both the trial and the appellate levels. He has also handled subrogation matters and the defense of personal injury matters.    After finishing Law School in 1975, Mr. Cartozian began in private practice as a General Practitioner for a period of about 10 years in the Sacramento area. Areas of practice at that time included family law, adoptions, criminal defense, Bankruptcy, personal injury, corporate and business transactions, juvenile matters, wills, probate, collections, mechanics liens, etc. In 1985 he became associated with Industrial Indemnity – House Counsel and focused his concentration on the defense of workers compensation claims, workers compensation subrogation, defense of 132a and Serious and Willful Misconduct claims. After 10 years he opened his private practice with a partner and continued the same type work. From 1997 to 2007 he was associated with and became a partner with the workers compensation defense law firm of Gray & Prouty. Mr. Cartozian has been with the FS&K law firm since October 2007.
   Mr. Cartozian thus brings with him a 10 year general practice background and over 27 years of workers compensation defense experience where his clients have included insurance companies, third party administrators, private employers, school districts, and public agencies. He has made presentations on a variety of topics in the workers compensation arena to groups of varying size and experience.
   Mr. Cartozian is licensed to practice before all state Courts of the State of California, has appeared at most of the Workers Compensation Appeals Board District Offices in California, and in June 2005 was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C.

   Prior to beginning his employment with the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, Mr. Muminovic had several years of workers’ compensation experience aggressively litigating matters before the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB).
   Mr. Muminovic currently represents third party administrators, insurance entities, self-insured entities and uninsured employers in defense of workers’ compensation matters.  In this capacity, Mr. Muminovic litigates standard workers’ compensation issues as well as defense of 132a and serious and willful misconduct allegations.

Biography

   Jeffrey S. Springer was an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly’s Calabasas office location.  After obtaining his Undergraduate Degree with California State University, Northridge, Mr. Springer went on to graduate from Pepperdine University School of Law and joined the Law Offices of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLP in 1989 as one of the firm’s first attorneys.
   Jeff Springer lost his fight with cancer and succumbed to its ravages.  Jeff never gave up a fight to defend his clients, nor beat the demon cancer that took his life. His attitude throughout the five-year battle was never dispirited. He was always positive and repeatedly said that he would beat the cancer and would be back better than ever. 
   Jeff’s contribution to the firm’s reputation and growth cannot be overstated. His diligence exemplifies our firm’s assertion that “the defense never rests”.  Even while ill he persisted in defending his clients without complaint and without them knowing his condition.
